*phew* Smile

... 48 hours ago, my server crashed because the hardware hosting it was 'crippled' Frown

Total time to restore everything are 6 continuous hours (thanks to the corrupted and wrong-linked file and structure in the disk due to crash)

At the moment, some minor content in the server are already back in place.

Now, what lesson have I learned from this?

  • Even though you have backup, if the hardware are limited and during backup it crashed, even the backup also screwed
-> solution: the limitation was the backup storage capacity. I'm now extending the backup storage capacity over network disks (I think one day I really can afford the actual SAN to serve this infrastructure, anyone care enough to give me their trial? I might have a deal to trade it with Wink)
  •  Sometimes wish could happen anytime soon, it is just a matter whether you are ready or not
I now, this may seem not related. However, in early 2008, I wished to fix that crashed server because some settings in there was 'wrong' and cause some problem in sending email.
Now, since it has crashed and I have no choice other than reinstalling it, it is a good chance to also update it and fix those problem (and no fix needed as out-of-the-box already good enough Wink)

Okay then, it's time to resume my life with this fresh server.

Up, up and away!!!
